SLEEP in My World

Chester in window.

Oh Yeah, baby ...

Check out those wide window sills.

Ah, the voluptuous pleasures of the window sills. Where I live, there are exactly seven window sills that are specially-designed to accommodate cats. (Although I'm not one to complain, only four of them actually get enough sun to make it worthwhile. Come on, guys.) Sleep, whether in window sills or not, is one of the major pastimes of my life. Read on to learn more!

High Places

Although window sills are indeed higher than the ground, they do not really qualify as "high places." One of the best examples of a high place is the piano in the main room. It is extremely reassuring to fall asleep on this five-foot prominence, sometimes facing the room, where I can see everything that happens (if anything happens), and at other times, hiding behind the books, where I will remain safe in any case. Other high places include the top of the file cabinets, and the ultimate summit, which I have not yet conquered: the very top of the eight-foot-high bookcases. I've gotten on the lower shelves. There's got to be some way to get all the way up there. I just know it.

Dark Places

Some days there is just a bit too much going on -- maybe the Dragon [Eds: the vacuum cleaner] has gone rampaging through the house, maybe some children have run by in the street, or perhaps somebody wearing the color red happened to walk past my window when I was peacefully watching some birds. In all these cases, I must find someplace dark and secret to hide and sleep in: the towel drawer in the kitchen, the space under the bed, squished in behind the couch, or under Torrey's desk -- any of these places will do, provided nobody sees me go there.

Warm Places

As you might imagine, warm places are also sometimes high places, and sometimes dark places. But not always. One of my favorite warm places is the sunny patch that appears on the office floor every day for just so long. It's always great for going into a huge stretch ... and passing out.
